The drug Asrol consists of air dried root of Rauwolfia serpentina (L.) Benth. ex Kurz ( Apocynaceae); a perennial undershrub widely distributed in India in the sub-Himalayan tracts up to 1,000 m as well as, in the lower ranges of the eastern and western Ghats and in the Andaman.
Temperament: Cold and Dry
Action(s): Calming agent (Musakkin), Anaesthetic (Mukhaddir), Nerves calming agent (Musakkin-e-Asab), Antihypertensive (Musakkin-e-Fishar-ud-Dam Qawi), Antidote (Tiryaq-e-Samoom), Hypnotic (Munawwim).
Theraputic Use(s): Insanity(Junoon), Hysteria(Ikhtinaq-ur-Rahem), Hypertension(Fishar-ud-Dam Qawi), Insomnia(Sahar)
Dose: 0.5 g – 1.0 g.
