Part Used : Silk Cocoon

The drug Abresham consist of Abresham silk cocoon spun by the larvae of Bombyx mori L. (Bombycidae), the finest silk often known as mulberry silk comes from the larvae which feeds on the leaves of mulberry Morus alba L. (Moraceae). The silk worm is the larvae or caterpillar of a moth in the family Bombycidae, an important producer of silk. The stage between the caterpillar to the chrysalis or pupal stage, it secretes around itself an oval cocoon about 2 to 5 cm long consisting of continuous thread upto 1200m.

  • Temperament: Hot and Dry

  • Action(s): Exhilarant (Mufarreh), Expectorant (Munaffis-e-Balgham), Attenuant (Mulattif), Detergent (Jali), Memory enhancer (Muqawwi-e-Hafeza)

  • Theraputic Use(s): Palpitation (Khafaqan), Cardiac insufficiency(Zof-e-Qalb), Cough (Sual),Bronchial asthma(Zeeq-un-Nafas), Catarrh (Nazla)

  • Dose: 3-5 g.

  • Important Formulation(s): Dawa-ul-Misk Motadil Jawahirwali, Dawa-ul-Misk Motadil Sada, Khamira Abresham Arshadwala, Khamira Abresham Sada, Khamira Gaozaban Sada and Majoon-e-Chobchini, Sharbat-e-Abresham Sada.
